A quick and nondestructive way to gauge the health of an engine or other mechanical components is by looking at what's in the oil. We can determine if there are any developing issues, if the oil is functioning as it should, and if longer oil change intervals are permissible. We use oil analysis to help determine failures when conducting a PRO-Inspection Plus service.

What does the analysis include?

 

In our PRO-Inspection Plus analysis, we perform four tests:.

 

Spectral Exam: Establishes the levels of wear metals, silicon, and additives present in the oil. This test gives us a gauge as to how much your engine is wearing. Also checks for coolant.

 

Insolubles: Quantifies the percentage of abrasive solids that may be present in the oil. This test gives us an idea on how effective of a job the oil filter is doing and then determines to what extent the oil has oxidized.

 

Viscosity: Determines the grade of oil regarding its grade or thickness of the oil. This test will allow us to know within what range the viscosity should be. If the viscosity happens to fall outside a specific range, then there's probably a reason for it. Typically the oil has been contaminated with oil, moisture, coolant, or the engine has been overheated.

 

Flashpoint: The Flashpoint determines the temperature at which the vapors from the oil ignite. When the flash is lower than it should be, it indicates possible contamination. Most often fuel contamination is the issue.  

 

We can conduct standard oil analysis on any sample of oil, whether it's engine oil, transmission oil, an oil-based additive, hydraulic oil, biodiesel, or other types of oil.

There are more specialized tests we can perform on an oil sample, depending on your needs.
